The New Jersey Society of CPAs (NJCPA) Scholarship Fund awarded scholarships totaling $230,000 to 57 New Jersey high school and college students on Tuesday.
The awards ceremony, held at the Pines Manor in Edison, also marked a return to in-person events that had been suspended since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Twenty-five accounting students at New Jersey colleges or universities who are currently in their junior year or in their senior year and entering an accounting-related graduate program were awarded $6,500 each, while eight students in their sophomore year were awarded $2,000 each, and two received $5,500 American Institute of CPAs (AICPA)/NJCPA Minority Scholarships. Additional National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) – Northern New Jersey Chapter/NJCPA awards were also distributed.
This year’s college award recipients attend the following colleges and universities: Caldwell University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Kean University, Monmouth University, Montclair State University, Ramapo College of New Jersey, Rider University, Rowan University, Rutgers University, St. Peter’s University, Seton Hall University, Stevens Institute of Technology and The College of New Jersey.
The 22 high school award winners who received $1,500 each are college-bound New Jersey high school seniors intending to major in accounting or obtain a concentration in accounting. Six of those winners received the Deloitte Minority High School Scholarship. Funded by Deloitte Foundation, this new scholarship was created to open the doors to the accounting profession for New Jersey high school seniors who are racially or ethnically diverse and considering accounting as their college major.
The Deloitte Scholarship winners came from three New Jersey high schools that were part of the pilot program: Rahway High School, West Orange High School and New Brunswick High School.
Other high school recipients attend Delran High School, Edison High School, Fort Lee High School, Howell High School, Kittatinny Regional High School, Manalapan High School, Montville Township High School, Old Bridge High School, Parsippany Hills High School, Point Pleasant Borough High School, Red Bank Regional High School, Upper Freehold Regional School District-Allentown High School, Wayne Hills High School and Wayne Valley High School.
“It was wonderful to be able to gather in person this year to meet the students who are receiving the scholarships. The scholarships not only provide financial relief but also encourage the students to pursue a career in accounting,” said Henrietta Fuchs, CPA, president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund and partner at CohnReznick LLP.
“It’s always a thrill to be able to assist such young, talented individuals,” said Ralph Albert Thomas, CPA (DC), CGMA, CEO and executive director of the NJCPA. “This would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the generosity of our members and firm/company benefactors.”

The NJCPA Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $7 million since inception to students who meet academic, test score, essay and personal interview qualifications. The fund has supported more than 1,700 New Jersey students on their way to becoming CPAs. NJCPA members also assist by reading essays and/or conducting interviews during the selection process.
