The New York Times is reporting that President Donald Trump has invited top officials from New York and New Jersey to the White House to discuss the Gateway project, an initiative to construct a new train tunnel under the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York City.

The newspaper said U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer, Cory Booker and Kirsten Gillibrand and Govs. Andrew M. Cuomo and Chris Christie are among the invitees.

NJBIA believes expanding rail capacity between New Jersey and New York is critical to New Jersey’s economy and the quality of life in this state. In a letter to the federal Railroad Administration in August, NJBIA President & CEO Michele Siekerka said the existing 100-year-old tunnels serve the most commuters of any region in the country–more than 200,000 daily—and are in desperate need of repair and replacement.
