On this past weekend’s episode of “Minding Your Business,” the show visits Hudson Community Enterprises in Jersey City – a nonprofit which has been successfully providing employment to persons with disabilities for decades.
HCE President Joseph Brown explained to host Bob Considine how the organization balances fulfilling its nonprofit missions, while also meeting its business margins. And there is growth to be seen in every employee.
“I think people blossom,” Brown said. “When they come and they feel they have a purpose, because work gives you a purpose, they feel they have been productive.
“Here we don’t really concentrate on what people can’t do. We concentrate on what people can do. And we’re able to tailor the work so there’s a place here for everybody. There’s something they can do and there’s a way for them to progress and learn new skills.”
