Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Doug Roland will be the guest speaker this evening during a special online Berkeley College program about diversity equity and inclusion of members of the deaf-blind community
Roland directed the 2019 drama “Feeling Through” about a late-night encounter on a New York City street that leads to a profound connection between a teen-in-need and a deaf-blind man. The film, whose executive producer was actress Marlee Matlin, won numerous international awards and was nominated for a 2021 Oscar in the Best Live Action Short Film category.
The online discussion will help participants better understand the deaf-blind community, share practical tips to increase inclusion of deaf-blind students through respectful interactions and foster student empowerment.
A second presentation on this topic will air at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, featuring Wendy Chouinard, coordinator of Curriculum and Training, Helen Keller National Center. To register for Friday’s program, go here.
