A group of 26 business penned a letter this week to Gov. Phil Murphy urging him to sign a bill on his desk that ensures NJBIA’s successful Basic Skills Training program can continue to expand and develop the workforce for employers throughout the state.

Bill A-3027, sponsored by Sens. Sandra Cunningham (D-31) and Troy Singleton (D-7) and Assemblymembers Pamela Lampitt (D-6), Mila Jasey (D-27) and Eric Houghtaling (D-11), commits $3 million from the Supplemental Workforce Fund for Basic Skills to the New Jersey Community College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development.

The legislation passed unanimously in both houses in June.

“This program has been a critical investment in our companies, in our employees, and in our state,” the businesses wrote. “This program enables companies, such as ours, to work seamlessly and efficiently with the state’s community colleges to obtain essential training for our employees.

“We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to benefit from an investment that has positively impacted thousands of employers across our state. The training has helped our company to be more productive while helping our employees to pursue opportunities for career advancement. This legislation will ensure that more companies and their employees can participate in this highly effective program each year.”

NJBIA and the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC) also urged the governor to sign the bill earlier this month.
