NJBIA is continuing to sound the alarm for the need of the Cannabis Regulatory Commission to issue rules on the use of Workplace Impairment Recognition Experts, or WIREs.
The CRC said at its most recent board meeting last month that it was still working on researching how to address WIREs guidelines. The CRC was tasked with doing so nearly 20 months ago.
NJBIA Chief Government Affairs Officer Chrissy Buteas told NJ Spotlight News’ correspondent Melissa Rose Cooper that New Jersey employers are in a “gray area right now.”
“We have an existing statute that says that, in order to maintain a drug-free workplace – unlike with all other substances, like alcohol – we need to hire these workplace recognition experts,” Buteas said. “So we’re waiting on how to comply with this new law.”
