New Camden Tech Startup Promises to Hire 100+ Camden Students Penji, a new startup launching in Camden, starts 2018 with two new hires toward their mission of hiring 100+ Camden students. A design startup providing unlimited design services, Penji is a leader amongst new businesses rising in Camden and providing work opportunities to students and residents. Penji added two full-time students to their team, including three other full-time Camden students.
Zwicker Named to Lead New Assembly Science, Innovation & Technology Committee Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin has named Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker, a physicist, to chair the newly created Assembly Science, Innovation and Technology Committee, which Coughlin intends to make a key part of the Assembly’s efforts to create jobs and economic development and boost the middle-class. “We must look for ways to make our state vibrant, such as focusing on our science and innovation ecosystem as a source of jobs and economic development for our state,” said Coughlin (D-Middlesex).

Celgene to Launch State-Of-The-Art Biopharma Incubator in Summit Celgene Corp. is planning to launch the Thomas O. Daniel Research Incubator and Collaboration Center, a 16,000-sq.-ft. state-of-the-art lab space for entrepreneurs interested in medical research and innovation. The facility will be located on the Celgene Summit West Research campus in Summit. Celgene’s goal is to “bolster the entrepreneurial ecosystem in New Jersey” by providing space and ideas for those interested in life sciences. Participants will also have access to Celgene’s leadership for advice and ideas. The center is set to open later this year.
Rutgers Names New Director for Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research XinQi Dong, a professor of medicine, nursing and behavioral sciences at the Rush University Medical Center and the associate director of the Rush Institute for Healthy Aging, has been named director of Rutgers University’s Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH). In addition to the institute directorship, Dong will serve as the inaugural Henry Rutgers Professor of Population Health Sciences. He will begin April 1. Dong, a renowned population epidemiologist and health services researcher, has been a strong advocate for advancing population health issues in under-represented communities worldwide.
Opinion: Bipartisan House Effort Would Protect Seniors and Disabled in NJ In early November, the House of Representatives voted to abolish a federal panel that would have put Medicare benefits at risk for nearly 1.5 million senior and disabled New Jerseyans. These Medicare beneficiaries won’t be safe until the Senate follows the House’s lead. The Independent Payment Advisory Board has the power to restructure Medicare if the program’s spending surpasses a certain threshold. Medicare hasn’t gone over the limit yet. But if it eventually did, President Trump would be required by law to appoint 15 unelected individuals to serve on the panel.
