The application process opened today for New Jersey Zero Emission Incentive (NJ ZIP) funding, a $15 million pilot program providing up to $100,000 in vouchers to businesses and institutional organizations in the greater Newark and Camden areas to purchase zero-emission vehicles.

The NJZIP vouchers can be used toward the purchase of medium and heavy-duty vehicles such as pickup trucks, vans, buses, and box trucks, according to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), which is administering the program.

Voucher amounts varies, depending on the class of vehicle purchased. A minimum $25,000 is available for Class 2b vehicles and up to $100,000 is available for Class 6 vehicles. Bonuses are available for small businesses; women-, minority-, and veteran-owned businesses; vehicles manufactured in New Jersey; small businesses that scrap their eligible gas- or diesel-powered vehicles; and vendors that invest in driver education and training.

This pilot program is funded by Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) proceeds allocated to NJEDA for the purposes of reducing harmful emissions, especially in communities disproportionately impacted by transportation emissions. Vouchers are only available to businesses and institutional organizations in the greater Newark and greater Camden areas that are defined as the overburdened communities. A complete list of eligible municipalities is available at https://www.njeda.com/njzip.

The application for the program is available at https://www.njeda.com/njzip. After an eligibility review, vouchers will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, until funds are depleted.
