While the Legislature has been focusing on budget hearings, NJBIA’s advocacy and information sharing is extending well beyond the Statehouse.
This past week alone, NJBIA hosted four major events on a wide variety of issues impacting New Jersey businesses – all while continuing its work on a myriad of budget and non-budget bills currently under consideration with the Legislature.
- On Tuesday, NJBIA hosted a Government Affairs Policy Committee meeting with Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald to go over legislative priorities.
- On Wednesday, NJBIA presented to its Employment & Labor Policy Committee David Bander, the Executive Director of NJDOLWD’s Policy Office, as well as OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialist Brian Crain, Research Associate for the Senate Republican Office Alex Solomon and Assemblyman William Sampson (D-31).
- On Thursday, an NJBIA webinar with Senate Majority Leader M. Teresa Ruiz and Advocates for Children of New Jersey Senior Policy Analyst Cynthia Rice how the business community can address childcare challenges to help boost employee recruitment and retention.
- On Friday, NJBIA hosted a “Meet the Decision Makers” event with new Department of Human Services Commissioner Sarah Adelman to go over key initiatives.
“Our Government Affairs team prides itself on both bringing the concerns of our members to the forefront in all areas, as well as giving them the opportunity to bring their own unique situations to the table in these face-to-face settings,” NJBIA Chief Government Affairs Officer Chrissy Buteas said.
“I’m grateful to all of our speakers for making themselves available, as well as to our hard-working Government Affairs team for facilitating these meetings, all while working on bills and attending other Employer Legislative Committee meetings throughout the state.”
The action doesn’t stop next week, either.
On Tuesday, May 3, NJBIA’s Health Policy Committee Meeting will feature Carrie Swope, Health Policy Advisor to Congressman Bill Pascrell, and Kaylee McGuire, Health Policy Advisor for the Murphy administration. Also, representatives of HOSA, Future Health Professionals, will also be on hand to discuss health employment opportunities for students.
On Wednesday, May 4, NJBIA will host the event, “Your Business & Cannabis: It’s Complicated,” for the businesses to better understand the current legal challenges confronting business owners with the legalization of recreational cannabis.
On Thursday, May 5, NJBIA will join NJMEP for its annual State-of-the-State of Manufacturing Summit, which will give manufacturers the opportunity to present their challenges to the Legislature.
And on Friday, May 6, State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio will join NJBIA’s “Meet the Decision Makers” series to discuss Gov. Phil Murphy’s FY23 budget and give members the opportunity to ask questions about fiscal issues impacting their business.
