NJBIA President & CEO Michele Siekerka says Netflix’s bid to build an East Coast production hub at Fort Monmouth could create thousands of jobs, an abundance of workforce development opportunities, and sustained economic activity.
In an op-ed published this week in NJ.com, Siekerka urged the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) to prioritize the jobs and innovation that the Netflix proposal will bring to the 300-acre parcel and New Jersey.
“Production industry jobs are just the kinds of future-proof employment our state needs,” Siekerka wrote.
“They represent a range of opportunities, from high-tech jobs in digital media to positions like camera technicians, grips or rigging experts, set builders, make-up artists, and others who don’t require a college degree but provide union membership and solid middle-class wages that can rise to six figures,” she said.
