In the very competitive commercial real estate marketplace in New Jersey, commercial brokers need to have something special to gain and then maintain market share. That’s certainly true for Cedar Knolls-based Newmark Associates, which was founded by Susanne Newmark in 1987 and has been a proud NJBIA member since 1998.

Newmark provides traditional broker services and has formal divisions in the areas of office, retail, healthcare, industrial, land brokerage and advisory services.  The office division, for example, is dedicated to helping clients achieve their goals for acquisition, consolidation, disposition, expansion, or asset enhancement. Their combined expertise in market analysis, demographic information, site selection, negotiations and occupancy needs ensures solid decision-making and advice.

But Newmark’s success is primarily a product of their organization’s culture, which demonstrates a strong work ethic and commitment to people in the communities they serve.

There are many elements that define a company’s culture, and for Newmark, it starts with the pride they have in being a certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE), a certification offered by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council (WBENC), the largest third-party certifier of businesses owned, controlled and operated by women in the U.S.  This not only encourages diversity in the workplace but also growth and sustainability.

In addition to Susanne, Nancy Glick serves a key leadership role as the chief operating officer for Newmark Associates. Nancy is an accomplished professional with a finance background, and in fact, will be a panelist for one of the sessions at the upcoming NJBIA Women’s Business Leaders Forum on September 15.

In addition, Newmark is also a registered Supplier Diversity provider with many companies, further displaying its commitment to diversity and, frankly, good business practices.  It’s a win-win for both parties and one that NJBIA greatly encourages participation in.

The company also prides itself on giving back to the community. In February, Newmark volunteers were at the Mt. Kemble Home in Morristown to help build and create items for the residents.  This included constructing and mounting bookcases in the home’s new library and crafting a TV console for the new community room.  The Mt. Kemble Home, founded in 1883, provides affordable housing for elderly single women of very limited means.  Susanne shared, “Giving back to the communities and taking care of one another are core values of our entire team.  What a powerful experience the act of volunteering can be for all involved.”
