The New Jersey Business & Industry Association is seeking amendments to better protect commercial and industrial ratepayers when a joint legislative committee meets on Wednesday to consider a bill that would require the Board of Public Utilities to develop regulations for nuclear power plants delivering electricity in New Jersey.
The Assembly Telecommunications & Utilities Committee and the Senate Energy & Environment Committee are scheduled to consider A-5330 (McKeon, Burzichelli, DeAngelo, Taliferro)/ S-3560 (Sweeney, Smith, Van Drew), which would establish a nuclear diversity certificate (NDC) program funded by a tariff of $.004 per kilowatt hour.
“NJBIA has long supported nuclear power and understands that it is an important part of our fuel diversity,” said Sara Bluhm, NJBIA’s Vice President for Energy and Environment. “Yet we also recognize the need for business to remain competitive and there must be safeguards for the business ratepayer.”
